Books I bought today

It is that time of the season again: to buy a pile of new books.

The summary:

  • Books regarding “the culture of sharing”, empathy, socialism, anarchism and “the next wave”
  • Books of authors pissing in different directions / taking the piss of things / offering different views on things
  • Books about hope and the unfair things in life (I guess)

Fiction

  • One flew over the cuckoo’s nest – Ken Kesey
  • The unbarable lightness of being – Milan Kundera

Science fiction

  • Infinite Jest – David Foster Wallace
  • A place so foreign – Corey Doctorow

Business / non fiction

  • Wikinomics – Don Tapscott / Anthony D. Williams
  • The Dip – Seth Godin
  • Existentialism (short introduction) – Thomas R. Flynn
  • Socialism (short introcution) – Michael Newman
  • Anarchism (short introduction) – Colin Ward
  • The dead sea scrolls (short introduction) – Timothy H. Lim (the narrative of the Bible shows gaps and plot-holes due to human errors or taking away parts. The one reason I understand now of the importance of those scrolls is those gaps can be restored so that the stories make more sense)
  • The Singularity is near – Ray Kurtzweil
  • Een tijd voor empathie – Frans de Waal (De Waal states that empathy and social behaviour is just as important as “the right of the strongest”)
  • Getting things done – David Allen (been avoiding this one for a long time)
  • We-think – Charles Leadbeater
  • Freakonomics – Steven D. Levitt / Stephen J. Dubner
